Granny

We lost my sweet Granny to Covid19 in January a year ago. She was 97.
My Granny was one of the best women I've ever known, and she and my Papaw raised some of the best kids. One of them was my sweet Mama. They lived on the most beautiful farm, and there, on that farm, they raised their children to love others. Everyone that came after that… husbands, wives, children, and grandchildren… were also taught to love others. There’s nothing more important in life. Granny made each and every single person she came in contact with feel special because she genuinely loved people.

You knew she was happy by her smile, and when you heard her infectious laugh, you were blessed. She made every day at her home feel like a holiday, whether we were walking the hills on the farm or swimming in Ross Creek. Her house was always full. Full of people, full of love, full of laughter, and full of good food. One of her specialties was her vegetable beef soup, which was waiting in the crock pot for us when we got home today.

I was her first grand baby, and I realized myself a few months before she passed when my first grand baby arrived, that a Granny’s love is big enough for ALL her babies and grand babies, no matter how few or how many. I'm so glad I had that in common with her before she left us.

Although I'm sure she's much happier sitting with Papaw in a rocking chair talking to Jesus, her loss is still felt by so many. She will live on in me, though, and in all the others that she touched with her love, wisdom, strength, and grace.
She told my sister once that when she wasn’t able to attend church, she got to see God from her front porch. I don't think there's anything better than that on this earth.

She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.
